England call up Stoneman & Crane and Drop Jennings for West Indies Series 2017

I think its a fair call really to drop Keaton Jennings who has really never looked comfortable this summer, and England do need to explore other options before Australia this winter and quite simply don't have that many games left to do it in. So Mark Stoneman is well overdue a chance, and great news for him that he is at last going to get it.

Of course it's still very possible that Jennings will be going to Australia, so he needs to knuckle down and get runs in the Championship and I am sure he knows that. The other bit of good news is that Mason Crane, Hampshire's young 20 year old leg break bowler is going to be involved as well. Obviously it's not given that he will play, in fact it's pretty unlikely in the 1st two tests, but they do need to see him close up for a few weeks and this is the perfect opportunity.

So the squad is.

Cook, Stoneman, Westley, Root, Malan, Stokes, Bairstow, Ali, Woakes, Roland-Jones, Broad, Crane, Anderson.

I think that is good squad, under the circumstances, keeping options open for down under in just 3 months time now.

The First Test 17th-21st August at Egbaston is of course a day night game with the pink ball that starts at 2pm daily. Then its up to Headingley 25th-29th August. Then the final test match before the Ashes will be at Lords  7th-11th September.
