England Selectors with decisions to make as Big Bash beckons for England ODI omissions

20th Dec 2016 is quite a significant date in the Cricketing Calendar this year. It is the start of the T20 Big Bash down under in Australia and handy for some England players it is the final day of the the 5th Test in India. It has been confirmed this week Stuart Broad will play for Hobart Hurricanes.

Ian Bell has been offered a deal with Perth Scorcers that deal is however from late November, England mulling it over I believe, but at least Ian will know if he is really in England plans or not. If not he can look forward to a brand new experience down under. (Confirmed 30th Aug 2016) It is understood Bell is still available to play in Bangladesh and India.

David Willey has confirmed that he has signed.  Willey of course is a T20 England specialist, so his inclusion would fit into plans. He must have been given the nod you would have thought. Although the T20 series India v England starts on Jan 26th, the semi finals of the Big Bash are 24th and 25th Jan 2017. So he will still be easily available for all 14 group stage games.

Adel Rashid is in the Strikers squad as it stands, but you would expect him to tour with England in India.

Adelaide Strikers

Adel Rashid (Retained from 2015/16, but expected to tour with England)

Perth Scorchers

David Willey (See tweet)
Ian Bell  (Confirmed)

Hobart Hurricanes

Stuart Broad (Confirmed)

Sydney Thunder

Eoin Morgan (Expected to be confirmed)

Melbourne Stars

Luke Wright (Expected to be confirmed)
Kevin Pieterson (Possible to be confirmed)

England do have an ODI series in India in Jan 2017 and so top players such as Roy Buttler, Bairstow, Root Stokes Billings and Woakes are not expected to play in the Big Bash. That does leave Jimmy Anderson with not much going on this winter...so far.
