England's search for a 50 Over Cricket Star starts right here!

England Cricket director Andrew Strauss is set to launch a brand new three match one day series that will be played in Abu Dhabi in March 2017 and has a contract to run for the three years. It will be two England teams that will be picked on a North v South basis. The difference being that the London One Day Cup MVP rankings will be used to pick five England players from each side and that will include one spin bowler.

The rankings have recently been enhanced to include batting and bowling bonus points for certain performances, for instance a bonus point for getting 30 runs. They also take into account the strength of the opposition. The rest of the side which is another six players, will be picked in a more traditional method of selection.

Strauss said "This is a good opportunity for England domestic players and the game. Finding the best players outside the current England set-up, playing them against each other in overseas conditions and placing them in an England environment will help us see if they're ready for international cricket."

I think this is a good positive initiative taken here and I think we will see some interesting players plucked out of the system, it certainly gives all the young players a bit of chance to shine. We do have some rising stars, but some are not so young any longer, they are mid 20's, and need a next step. This will provide a good number of them in that position with a bit of chance.

The first games in the London Cup will begin on the 5th June with the final at Lords in September.
